A heartfelt letter from Dr. Angela Cortal: Maybe you are reading this because you recently received a postcard letting you know about my new practice location. Or maybe you just randomly happened upon this page. Either way, the following is the short news blurb (same as the postcard mailed), followed by the more in-depth explanation. Dr. Angela Cortal's practice is changing locations Starting January 2019 Dr. Cortal is excited to be announcing that her Portland practice will be moving to:Reconstructed Wellness 936 SE Ankeny St Portland, OR 97214 Phone: 503-232-3215 For any needs in the next month, be sure to get in your office visit, lab order or prescription refill request (if applicable) before mid-December, as Dr. Cortal's schedule will be limited through the holiday season. For continuing care, you can schedule your next visit in January and later at any time here: https://www.reconstructedwellness.com/schedule Dr. Cortal will be providing all the same services and is happy to be continuing to expand care focusing on hormone balancing/ management and Regenerative Injection Therapies (prolotherapy and Platelet-Rich Plasma injections). All insurance coverage will carry over, with the exception of United; please see www.rosecityhealth.com for further details. To a happy and healthy 2019, Dr. Angela Cortal So that's the gist of it, and all I could fit on a postcard. If you're interested, here's the full story on the move. Over the last 1.5 years, I have been transitioning down my practice time in Portland, and transitioning up my practice time at Natural Physicians in Salem. Earlier this year, my family moved from Portland, to a rural spot west of Salem, the perfect pastoral acreage outside the city we were looking for. Below are two photos we took last spring: Nice, huh?
It's also about 70 miles from Portland, so quite the commute. In an effort to scale down and down my practice in Portland, it came to a point this last fall when I thought I had done all I could do. Before just stopping entirely, that is. For several weeks last month, I started preparing to close down my practice in Portland. Then, very recently, I was offered a way to continue practicing in Portland, in a way that made sense for me and my patients, where other plans were not. So, starting January 2019, I will be practicing at Reconstructed Wellness. Just one day a week. On Mondays. I know that this is not the most convenient, but it is what I can do, short of throwing in the towel and practicing in Salem only. For those who want to continue working with me, on their unique hormone needs, or receiving Regenerative Injection Therapies from me, this is the way we can continue working together. For those who need more, more time/access to a doctor, a Primary Care Physician who will be in the office more regularly, I have many names. I would love to pass them along. Seriously, just ask- I want you to have the best care possible. Lastly, I mentioned no longer participating with United after December 2018. That is unrelated to this practice location move, the timing just coincides. This is an entire different topic, but if you are interested, keep reading. Basically, for months now, United has been operating illegally. They break state legislated rules, and I cannot get anyone at United to care, nor change their ways. It leads to many issues in my dealing with United patients. I have had many patients now get "surprise bills" for full office visit invoices from my clinic, after both patients and my clinic were told by United that their care would be covered. I can only take so many of these, with literally no recourse, before I just concede and stop working with them. Like I said, it has been many months, and many angry phone calls (I've been the angry one, trying to advocate for my patients). Ultimately I only had one "move" to play, ceasing my contract with them. So I have played it. I truly apologize for any patients whose care this impacts. They were just causing so many issues between my care and patients (after the fact of visits) that it just could not go on. No coverage would be better than this "yes it is/no it isn't" B.S. they were pulling. Please contact me directly if this impacts your care and you would like Financial Hardship considerations- I am highly motivated to figure out a way to continue care, but I cannot continue "working" (ha) with United. That's all the backstory on all the news, so now you're caught up. I hope you have a great rest of 2018, and here's hoping that 2019 is the best yet. ~Dr. Angela Cortal
